Where It All Went AU
Having bounced in and out of one of those pesky pan-dimensional villages for about two years, Richard B. Riddick took up with a cop. No, really. A homicide detective who'd pissed off her bosses enough to be bounced into Special Investigations, where they send all the weird cases. Constanza 'Connie' Murphy. (Not to be confused with her cross-dimensional counterpart Karrin Murphy)
Yeah, there were some trust issues at first. Yeah, he was up front about being a serial murderer back in his own ugly little 'verse. Yeah, it took some soul searching before the lady decided to give the con a chance.
Long story short-- when the time came to leave the village again, a little talisman dragged Riddick out of his magic village and into Chicago, Illinois, 2007.
For two years, Richard 'Dick' Bradley has been a park ranger in Illinois, occasionally commuting in to see his girlfriend and her kid (and quietly reporting back to the local mob boss about vampire and Sidhe movement on the boundaries of Chicago). He's friendly. Civilized. Even easygoing when you crack wise about his prescription sunglasses (he has an eye condition). And hasn't murdered anyone human (he'd like to keep that girlfriend, but mug him and you're still getting something broken.) Vampires, well. They're fair game.
He returns to the village after the events of Turn Coat (as played out by the cast of the Dresden Files TV show) He has played no role in the canon of the books-- he's just an offscreen citizen going about his day.
Physical:
Richard is a large man. It's not that he's fat, just that he's got enough muscle for two men. You might call him statuesque-- the complete lack of hair only adds to this image. The goggles (or, in casual settings, dark sunglasses) destroy the illusion, though; he wears these constantly. Anyone who sees him with the goggles off, or up on his forehead, would notice immediately that there is something wrong with his eyes. They shine, like the eyes of a really large, bald, ethnically ambiguous cat. Like the cat, he can see in almost complete darkness. Also like the cat, he will attack you with sharp objects if you annoy him enough.
He's fast, he's strong, and his instincts are very, very good. He shouldn't be lightly annoyed.
Personality:
Once upon a time, Riddick was sort of a nasty, anti-social lone wolf. Not as psychotic as they told you he was, but nowhere like normal.
Funny thing happened when he got to a 'verse (a little pan-dimensional town) where people weren't out to get him. Where it was easy to get enough to eat, and a safe night's sleep. Where there were bigger, badder assholes than him (and some of them were going to make sure he got fed, poor dear.) The lone wolf settled. An old pack instinct somewhere-- or a warrior bond, if you care about cultural heritage-- started to wake up. Once he started thinking of a place as 'home' (and Haurvatat was) he started letting people in and thinking of them as family, and the lone wolf grew into this mellow old alpha-wolf who was pretty happy to chill in the library and take care of all his people.
Thing is, he takes his people really seriously. Hurt them, you hurt him. Hurt him, and he's going to come kill you.
He's no less violent or dangerous than he ever was. He just looks cuddlier these days.
Canon
Riddick is the anti-hero of the sci-fi creature-flick Pitch Black. His canon also includes the animated but fun Dark Fury and the ridiculous but enjoyable in a popcorn-throwing, evil-overlord-drinking-game kind of way Chronicles of Riddick. It's like Flash Gordon, but on PCP. He leaves canon for good the village several months after Chronicles of Riddick, as his army crosses the threshhold.
